Melbourne International Comedy Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' spirit, imagination and rich history of storytelling and humour that is an inspiration to all Australians.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.

Sonny Yang Tales from My Immigrant Father: A Serious & Poignant Show About Culture for a Pretentious Audience

Sonny Yang Tales from My Immigrant Father: A Serious & Poignant Show About Culture for a Pretentious Audience

Critically acclaimed, cult-favourite comedian Sonny Yang (creator of festival hit Incredibly Stupid Adventure Game) returns to Melbourne International Comedy Festival with his new sketch show.

Come with him on a surreal, madness-inducing journey to rediscover his family roots in this darkly hilarious satire.

Audience reviews from Perth FRINGE WORLD 2024:

"That was not the show I signed up for... it was so much better."

"Off the wall and laugh out loud funny." Alice Mack (comedian)

"Brilliantly dark satirical genius. Sonny Yang delivers a powerful and hilarious message of truth."

"Sonny Yang is a comedy genius. He's done it again!" Jez Watts (comedian)

"What a journey!"

"Fantastic hilarious absurdist show, would see again!"

"Came in not knowing what to expect, came out giggling at how good it was."

"Wow wow wow wow wow. Sonny Yang you've done it again."

Sonny is an absurdist comedian and comedy writer based in Australia. A "master at keeping things funny" (The Australia Times), his productions typically involve multiple (poorly acted) characters, surreal narratives and audio-visual multimedia. His work has previously been described by Rove McManus as “the greatest thing to happen to comedy in years”.

"Genius." Vidya Rajan (At Home Alone Together, Aunty Donna's Coffee Cafe)

“Surreal, frustrating, absolute crack-up.” Craig Quartermaine (The Jim Jefferies Show / NITV / Tonightly)
