Melbourne International Comedy Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' spirit, imagination and rich history of storytelling and humour that is an inspiration to all Australians.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.

Michael Connell There, I Said It!

Michael Connell There, I Said It!

Do you love capitalism? Doubt more taxes will fix racism? Hate those Disney remakes? Then you need a night off from biting your tongue. Come act shocked by jokes you secretly agree with. No one will know – you won't get called in to HR.

Politics, culture and heresy served alongside sacred cow BBQ.

Like you, Michael Connell (Australia's Got Talent) thinks the world is going crazy and has a lot of questions. That's pretty frowned on these days with big tech, government and weirdos on the internet working hard to keep you from questioning the approved narrative.

Still, if you feel like slipping out of the mental straight jacket for a night you can hear some comedy that YouTube would demonetise, Facebook would say is "missing context" and could soon get you arrested for thought crime.

The room will be dark, no one will recognise you and you can deny you ever came.

This is a show about society's squelching of free thought and discussion. Big tech censorship, government's love of optics over results and our culture's turn towards safetyism – all this and more will be explored in a whirlwind hour of jokes.

Does Michael have all the answers? Probably not, but if you're willing to expand your mind you'll laugh like never before, and no one will get hurt – promise.

A comedian known for making jokes about big ideas, Michael has written comedy about everything from cryptocurrency and economics to stoic philosophy and language learning.

Michael regularly performs on cruise ships, in comedy clubs across the country and at corporate events for some of Australia's largest organisations. He's performed on Australia's Got Talent, opened for Weird Al Yankovic and had many other adventures in his many years in comedy.
