Melbourne International Comedy Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' spirit, imagination and rich history of storytelling and humour that is an inspiration to all Australians.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.

Brendon Kinch, Sweeney Young & Mading Jock A Succulent Comedy Meal

Brendon Kinch, Sweeney Young & Mading Jock A Succulent Comedy Meal

This triple threat line-up of comedians Brendon Kinch (New Zealand), Sweeney Young (Australia) and Mading Jock (South Sudan) will take you on a succulent journey of jokes derived from their own varied origins and life experiences. Prepare yourself for A Succulent Comedy Meal!

Sweeney Young of Neighbours fame, idolised comedians since his childhood in latte-sipping Brunswick to his young adulthood as a new comedian in Los Angeles in 2011. Over a decade later, he comes to you with a cheeky smile, a glint in his eye and a mind bent towards melding the vulnerable, honest and the absurd. Sweeney pokes fun at the worship of celebrity ego and his life as a newlywed. Bring a scuba tank because he dives into his subconscious and invites you to have a look around. He’s come a long way from the 18-year-old mysterious kid new to Ramsay Street. There’s no one better to take you down the rabbit hole into the crazy and absurd.

Mading Jock, a new up-and-coming comedian on the Australian scene, combines his approachable demeanour and quick-witted charm to carry any audience into a fit of laughter. Known for hosting and producing his own wild and unruly mics in bars, clubs and sometimes even his own backyard, Mading brings confidence and an easy-going vibe to the stage as he tackles a range of topics, some mundane and others taboo. As the first generation of South Sudanese comedians begin to rise up in the Australian comedy scene, a guy like Mading is simply a must-see.

Brendon Kinch’s comedy instincts first germinated in his mind as he navigated the rougher neighbourhoods of New Zealand in his childhood during the '90s. Cracking jokes and making people laugh became a survival skill, serving him well into adulthood. In 2016, on the encouragement of a close friend, he started stand-up comedy in Berlin’s burgeoning English stand-up comedy scene. Brendon brings his unique blend of absurdity, cultural observations, accents and act outs to his Melbourne International Comedy Festival debut.

This show promises to be a short and sweet 60-minute laugh fest – three comedians, 20 minutes each to get you laughing as hard as possible.
