Melbourne International Comedy Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' spirit, imagination and rich history of storytelling and humour that is an inspiration to all Australians.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.

The Newlyweds Better Off Wed

Your favourite married improvisers are back for more made-up madness. Award-winning actor, Eleanor, and superstar stand-up, Marcel, have been improvising plays around the world since 2018.

With just a few suggestions from the audience, The Newlyweds will weave your ideas into a sweeping narrative that’s chaotic, comedic and totally bonkers. Expect everything from forbidden romance, high adventure, horror and bloody murder. You never know what you’re in for with The Newlyweds but it's always hilarious.

“It’s like comedy magic.” Laura Hughes

“This is improv next level.” Amanda Buckley

“They won’t let their wedding vows get in the way of a good joke.” Lizzy Hoo

"Adorable, hilarious, well-crafted improv. So funny, so quick." Nikki Britton

"They are true improv pros, and quickly show the audience that they’re in for a great time." Jess Perkins (triple j)

"The Newlyweds had us eating out of the palm of their hands from the moment they meandered onstage. I’ve been twice." Damien Warren-Smith (Garry Starr)

"Their ability to craft a narrative punctuated with big big laughs from almost nothing is masterful!" Oliver Coleman

"An effortless masterclass. Quick witted, loveable and despicably funny. I love them." Sharnema Nougar (Two Little Dickheads)
