Melbourne International Comedy Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' spirit, imagination and rich history of storytelling and humour that is an inspiration to all Australians.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.

Andrew McClelland & Louisa Fitzhardinge The Von Donk Family Old-Timey Vaudeville Revue

The Butterfly Club presents

Andrew McClelland & Louisa Fitzhardinge The Von Donk Family Old-Timey Vaudeville Revue

Estranged siblings, Andrew and Louisa Von Donk (Andrew McClelland and Louisa Fitzhardinge), perform a career-spanning retrospective to honour their family vaudeville troupe after the untimely death of their parents in a freak tap-dancing accident. They’ll revisit all the songs and routines that made their family a household name from 1887 to 1996. From silent film to '80s electro albums, the Von Donk family did it all. There will of course be music! Tap dancing! Sketches! Costumes! Rivalry! An accompanist (Greg Lavell)!

The Von Donk Family Old-Timey Vaudeville Revue is a rip-roaring, modern tribute to all of the styles of music, comedy and theatre of the 20th century (except minstrel shows.)

The real-life husband-and-wife (and-wife’s-ex-partner) team of Andrew McClelland, Louisa Fitzhardinge and Greg Lavell are all renowned performers in their own right.

Andrew has written and toured 17 hour-long comedy shows including The Very Model of a Modern Major Musical (2022), Tie Her To The Tracks (2012 Moosehead recipient), One-Man Stand (2012 Crikey's 'Best of the Fest' award), Time Ninjas (2009 with Lawrence Leung, winner of Sydney Comedy Festival’s Jury Prize) and A Somewhat Accurate History of Pirates (1550-2017) (2005 Comedians’ Choice Award). He is also a television and radio regular and famed international DJ (really).

Louisa’s critically-acclaimed musical comedy, Comma Sutra, has toured around Australia and to Edinburgh, enjoying five consecutive years of sold out runs at Perth FRINGE WORLD and picking up a nomination for Best Cabaret. She is a two-time winner of Australia's national pun slam, Capital Punishment, as well as the creator and host of her own competition, The Australian O-Pun. She is a member of much-loved Melbourne improvised comedy troupes The Big HOO-HAA!, Impromptunes, Murder Village and Spontaneous Broadway, and has made appearances in many improvised comedy shows, including Dungeon Crawl (PAX), Yourovision, Plonk Family Band, Tod Talks and Questing Time (UK).

Greg began his creative life as a jazz pianist and transitioned to the world of improv theatre in 2010. His involvement in theatre includes performance and musical direction with Impro Melbourne, Impromptunes, The Big HOO-HAA!, and The Improv Conspiracy and most recently, with his own improv theatre company, Melbourne Unscripted. His recent show Cabaret Unscripted was nominated for Best Cabaret at Melbourne Fringe 2023.

'In a word, brilliant... Raucous laughs and lengthy applause shows McClelland got the ingredients right.' ★★★★½ Crikey

'In Fitzhardinge’s original songs, there are echoes of Tim Minchin’s self-aware and nerdy snarky style and Eddie Izzard’s quick code-switching.' Crikey

'McClelland is both Jeeves and Wooster. His goofy, fun-loving personality is undercut by a sharp wit and craftiness... the material is all top notch.' ★★★★½ Beat Magazine

'Fitzhardinge’s punchlines persistently stick the landing (figuratively) and leave you in fits of laughter (literally).' ★★★★★ Gutter Culture
