Box Office
The Main Comedy Festival Box Office is located on Swanston St outside Melbourne Town Hall – please follow venue signage or ask a Comedy Festival Front of House staff member. There is step-free/wheelchair access from street level to the Box Office and a box office desk available at a lower height. This Box Office will open at 11am every day until late. All Comedy Festival box offices are cashless so only EFTPOS and credit card are accepted. Cash is not accepted.

Security
Bag searches are required as a condition of entry to Melbourne Town Hall. Patrons are discouraged from bringing bags or items that are too large to fit under a seat to events. No outside food or drink is permitted into Melbourne Town Hall, other than water or for medical reasons. There is no storage or cloaking space available at the venue.

Transport Information

Public Transport
Melbourne Town Hall is located in close proximity to Flinders Street Train Station and is serviced by both Swanston Street and Collins Street trams. Go to ptv.vic.gov.au for public transport information.

Level access tram stops nearby are Stop 13 Flinders Street Station, Stop 11 Collins Street (Swanston St/Collins St) for trams 1, 3/3a, 5, 6, 16, 64, 67, 72 and Stop 6 Town Hall for trams 11, 12, 48, 109.

Car Parking
Secure Parking is proud to be a partner of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. They are offering all Comedy Festival ticketholders discounted parking at selected car parks. The closest Secure Parking to Melbourne Town Hall is 300 Flinders St. For more information about how to redeem the discount, please visit the Secure Parking website.

There are designated on-street Accessible Parking Bays available at the following locations:

  • Flinders St between Elizabeth St and Swanston St
  • Collins St between Russell St and Elizabeth St
  • Flinders Lane between Elizabeth St and Swanston St
  • Little Collins St between Russell St and Elizabeth St

The best spot for drop off and pick-ups is either on Collins Street or Little Collins Street.

Accessibility

Main Hall
The entrance to the Main Hall is off Collins St, around the corner from the main entrance on Swanston St, heading towards Russell St. There are two entry doors, each with a staircase of approx. 7 steps leading up to a marbled foyer.

For step-free/wheelchair access, there is a ramp to the right-hand side of the entry doors that leads up to the marbled foyer. Please ask a Front of House staff member for assistance when you arrive. Please see How to Book Your Ticket if you require step-free and/or wheelchair access in the Main Hall.

Once inside, the main entry doors to the Stalls seating area are straight ahead. There is a staircase on the left-hand side of approx. 20+ steps that leads to the Balcony. There is no step-free/wheelchair access to the Balcony, however there is an internal lift accessible from the main entrance on Swanston St that can be taken to level 2 and then only 6 steps are required to access the Balcony level.

The Main Hall is split into two sections – Stalls and Balcony – and both sections are allocated seating.

Stalls seating consists of Rows A – K which are high back banquet style fabric chairs flat on the floor. Accessible seating that allows for step-free access and/or space for a wheelchair is in Row K on both sides of the auditorium. Rows L – X are on a seating bank with two aisles and plastic chairs with a fold-down seat. The seating bank has wide steps leading up with approximately 10+ steps to get to Row X, which sits just below the first row of the Balcony.

Balcony consists of Rows AA – KK and seats are fabric covered with a fold-down seat.

There are bathrooms in the Collins St foyer, accessed downstairs via approx. 10+ steps. An accessible bathroom is available on the Ground Floor of Melbourne Town Hall, accessed through the Collins St foyer, through the Stalls seating area and by taking the lift to the Ground floor. Please see a Comedy Festival Front of House staff member if you require an accessible bathroom so that they can provide wayfinding assistance.

For shows in Main Hall, there are two bars situated in the Stalls area as well as one bar servicing the Balcony area of the Main Hall, when open.

Lower Town Hall
The entrance to Lower Town Hall is via the main Swanston St entrance and the venue is on the Ground floor. There are three steps from street level leading to the portico and the entrance to the venue is via a doorway on the left-hand side (when facing the main steps). Once inside the doorway, a small, sloped ramp leads to the entrance to Lower Town Hall and then approx. 4 steps lead down to the seating area.

For step-free/wheelchair access, there is a ramp on the left-hand side of the portico from street level that leads directly to the doorway and then a small, sloped marble ramp leads towards the entrance door to Lower Town Hall. Once inside the venue, there is an automatic wheelchair lift that provides wheelchair/step-free access to the performance space. Accessible seating is available on the right-hand side of the performance space, close to the accessible lift. A Comedy Festival Front of House staff member can provide assistance to your seat. An accessible bathroom is available on the Ground floor, along the foyer to the right-hand side of the Lower Town Hall entrance doors and to the left of the lifts.

Seating is in the form of high-back fabric banquet chairs on the floor and a rear seating bank, which is raked with steps leading from the floor to the last row.

There is a bar situated in the Lower Town Hall that services only shows in that space.

Powder Room
The entrance to Powder Room is via the main Swanston St entrance and is on Level 1. There are approx. 20 stairs leading up a large marble staircase and the performance space is on the left-hand side once you reach the top of the stairs.

For step-free/wheelchair access, there is a ramp on the left-hand side of the portico from street level that leads directly to a doorway on the left-hand side. A small, sloped marble ramp leads towards a foyer and at the base of the large staircase, there are lifts on the left. The lift is then taken to Level 1, which opens out into a large black and white tiled foyer. Please head through the large gilded bronze doors towards the main steps and turn right down the corridor to reach the Powder Room. The entrance to Portico Room is via the main Swanston St entrance and the venue is on Level 2. There are approx. 20 stairs leading up a large marble staircase; turn right at the top of the stairs and head through the large gilded bronze doors on the left towards the internal staircase. Continue up one more flight of stairs and the Portico Room is through the main doors to level 2.

There are approx. 20 stairs leading up a large marble staircase; turn right at the top of the stairs and head through the large gilded bronze doors on the left towards the internal staircase. Continue up one more flight of stairs and the Regent Room is through the main doors to level 2.

Continue up one more flight of stairs and the Flag Room is through the main doors to level 2.

The entrance to Supper Room is via the main Swanston St entrance and the venue is on Level 3. There are three steps from street level leading to the portico and the entrance to the venue is via a doorway on the right-hand side (when facing the main steps). Once inside the doorway, three more steps leads to a large marble staircase and then it takes three flights of stairs to reach the Supper Room.

For step-free/wheelchair access, there is a ramp on the left-hand side of the portico from street level that leads directly to a doorway on the left-hand side. A small, sloped marble ramp leads towards a foyer and at the base of the large staircase, there are lifts on the left. Assistive Listening
The following venues are equipped with a hearing loop throughout the performance space:

Melbourne Town Hall has assistive listening devices with headphones available that can be borrowed for the duration of the performance. Please see a Comedy Festival Front of House staff member to enquire about using an assistive listening device.

Bathrooms
There are bathrooms available in the Collins St foyer, on Ground Floor, Level 1 and Level 3. There are no bathrooms available on Level 2. Accessible bathrooms are available on Ground Floor and Level 3.

Bars
For shows in Main Hall, there are two bars situated in the Stalls area as well as one bar servicing the Balcony area of the Main Hall, when open. There is a bar situated in the Lower Town Hall that services only shows in that space as well as a bar in the Supper room, also only servicing shows in the Supper Room. All other venues at Melbourne Town Hall do not have access to a bar and drinks cannot be taken into these venues. All bars except the Balcony bar are step-free/wheelchair accessible.
