The nominees for the 40th annual Green Room awards have been announced, and there’s plenty of familiar faces from Melbourne International Comedy Festival shows on the list!

The Green Room Awards support outstanding achievements from artists and creatives within the arts and entertainment industry.

Geraldine Quinn scored five nominations with her show 2022 Festival show ‘Broad’. The sold-out show received nominations in the Best Production, Best Writing, Best Original Song and Best Musical Direction (for Cameron Thomas) categories (Cabaret), with Geraldine also getting a nod for Best Artiste. For those that missed it the first time round, you have a second chance to catch this award nominated show at the Festival this year, 10-23 April at Trades Hall.

The bold and brazen Vroom Vroom from Josh Glanc nabbed a trifecta of nominations for Best Production, Best Writing (Cabaret) and Best Artiste.

Joining Geraldine and Josh with a Best Artiste nomination, was dazzling comedy cabaret star Steven Oliver for Bigger and Blacker. Bigger and Blacker was also nominated in the Best Production, Best Musical Direction (for Michael Griffiths) and Best Writing (Cabaret) categories.

Michelle Brasier’s Reform snagged duo nominations, including Best Artiste and Best Writing (Cabaret).

In the Best Ensemble (Cabaret) category, Mel & Sam have been nominated for their show Shit-Wrecked! The Golden Gibbo nominated show also snagged a Best Original Song (Cabaret) nomination.

Other artists nominated for Green Room Awards in 2023 include Lou Wall’s Bleep Bloop (Cabaret, Best Original Song), Ally Morgan’s Not Today (Cabaret, Best Writing), Shanon Whitehead for Tina del Twist’s Caravan in the Sky (Cabaret, Best Musical Direction), and Sean Timms and Matt Gilbertson for Haus of Hans: Disco Spektakular (Cabaret, Best Musical Direction) and Bits Akimbo (performing under the name Big Fat Sharby at the 2022 Festival) for Cool Show Sixty-Nine (Best Ensemble).
