La Soupco is the title of a screenplay that Abby Howells wrote when she was 11 years old. It’s a romance, set in the Navy in the wake of World War ll, and it makes for one of the best shows I have ever seen.
Between reading out the aforementioned screenplay Howells takes a journey through her childhood, schooling, and relationships. More and more comedians are discussing being Autistic, but Howells is completely original in her delivery and cadence, unmatched in her style. The combination of the screenplay as well as personal stories works perfectly and it can’t be ignored just how strong Howells’s sense of comedy and timing is. This is a masterfully constructed show that deserves no huge spoilers as watching it unfold in real time is truly transfixing.
It sounds cliché but La Soupco almost feels magical, the joy is palpable in seeing a show that is so unique to the comedian’s voice. Yet it remains relatable in a way that feels akin to the stories you created with your siblings as young children.
