This is my third year going to Upfront, and it's quickly become one of my favourite nights of the year. The gale of women and non-binary people naturally attracts a similar audience, and it creates a buzz of warmth that manages to be felt even in the cavernous Town Hall main room.

This year's lineup was the usual mix of familiar faces (I'll always be happy to see He Huang) along with newer voices from Australia and internationally. It's a fantastic showcase, brilliantly hosted this year by Felicity Ward who kicked us off in style with a song about Fast and Furious. I emerged as I always do with new comedians on my radar; also, an intensified urge to catch Sam Nicoresti before the end of the festival.

Stand-up comedy is way more than men on stage with microphones, and Upfront proves it.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.
