Melbourne International Comedy Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' spirit, imagination and rich history of storytelling and humour that is an inspiration to all Australians.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.

The Funny Tonne

Australiatopia

Australiatopia

Duo Sam Cripps and Conor Lynch aka Adult Entertainers explore what they think Australia will be like in 2074. The result? 50 minutes of absurd and hilarious sketch comedy.

Australiatopia covers everything from holistic health to a lizard premier, all woven together with witty call-backs. This is Australian Gothic at its best! Cripps and Lynch are a strong duo, both working to elevate the other’s performance. Lynch’s physical comedy bouncing perfectly off of Cripp’s straight man. These sketches are really clever and well-executed, all adding up to a performance that feels much faster than its 50 minute run time. The world of Australiatopia is impressively fleshed out, and it’s a credit to Cripps and Lynch (as well as director Tiana Hogben) that the dystopian future is presented cheekily enough that this remixed romp through Australia’s history still feels like a good time. Part warning and part reflection Australiatopia is must-see!
