Melbourne International Comedy Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' spirit, imagination and rich history of storytelling and humour that is an inspiration to all Australians.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.

The Funny Tonne

The Lady Upstairs

The Lady Upstairs

Danielle Walker’s family is made up of eccentric, straight-talking, pranksters, and two generations of women with the same haircut. In her latest show Walker explores her recent surprise autism diagnoses and ponders if she’s perceived as odd due to being neurodiverse or simply because she grew up in small-town Tully.

This performance is full of heart and Walker’s signature enthusiasm, both about her family and also meerkat statues. From dressing like a middle-aged Mum in childhood photos to eating dog food to try and not miss watching McLeod’s Daughters each story is more intriguing than the last. By the end you leave really feeling like you know Walker. Her gift for storytelling is immense, and she strikes a delightful balance between sweet but still with plenty of bite.

The Lady Upstairs is a unique and beautiful love letter to Walker’s family, a reminder that we are all contain many parts.
