Daddy Short-Legs

Daddy Short-Legs

Daddy Short-Legs is a journey through Matthewson’s life, including why car enthusiasts are homophobic (unless you’re his gay, car loving Dad). Yes, ten years after Eli Matthewson came out, his Dad came out to him. Woah what a plot twist for his show! (Not really, it’s mentioned in the blurb).

Matthewson is clearly a well-seasoned stand-up, this show is carefully crafted and seems to have no stories that aren’t necessary. At one point he shushes a couple of annoying crowd members (the rest of the audience all internally cheered at this). The interruption doesn’t distract from the material which Matthewson delivers with a great balance of cheeky and earnest. It’s packed full of big laughs, including a truly glorious Guy Sebastian joke. He tackles the question of if gay comedians should limit the amount of gay jokes they tell. This show has plenty, but it is only to the benefit of what is an excellent performance.
