Melbourne International Comedy Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' spirit, imagination and rich history of storytelling and humour that is an inspiration to all Australians.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.

The Funny Tonne

Fully Furnished

Fully Furnished

To call Dave Hughes a master of his craft almost feels like an understatement. His latest show Fully Furnished gets some of the biggest laughs of any show I’ve seen, and they are well-earned.

Hughes has been entertaining people through stand-up, tv, and radio for decades. Seeing this performance it’s evident why he’s maintained such longevity. Beyond being incredibly funny Hughes is endearingly likeable and seems to truly appreciate his audience. This show is absolutely packed full of great jokes, his wife and kids feature heavily but any ribbing of them is only good-natured and the crowd are clearly very comfortable following Hughes wherever he takes them. The hour couldn’t feel faster as we’re treated to stories about Scary Spice, Melbourne’s Titanic exhibition, and The Masked Singer.

True to his word, after the show Hughes poses for photo after photo with the excitable crowd, I gladly partake too. As I’m leaving I realise it’s easy to understand Hughes enormous success as he combines wit with being a genuinely likeable bloke.
