Melbourne International Comedy Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' spirit, imagination and rich history of storytelling and humour that is an inspiration to all Australians.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.

The Funny Tonne

is Coming

is Coming

At the top of the show Oyama warns the crowd not to expect any similarities between her character on Utopia and the woman onstage. That’s a pretty fair assessment given that this show is unapologetically filthy and contains no references to nation building. Oyama’s show is not suitable for kids, but strangely enough it’s exactly the kind of comedy that 14 year old me was searching for on youtube. Watching her show felt strangely nostalgic.

Oyama is sharp, clever and delivers some of the best masturbation puns this festival has to offer. Her unfiltered performance is thrilling to witness, whether it’s about the unlimited potential to ask for favours if you’re a surrogate, or discussing the Animorphs book series. Go see Nina Oyama Is Coming, you’ll be glad you came.
