The Funny Tonne

Oh! The Horrors!

Oh! The Horrors!

Grace Jarvis has pattern recognition that is second to none and she wants you to know that we are exactly replicating the conditions that lead to World War ll. She also wants to create a funny performance. You can see her predicament.

Her show Oh! The Horrors! (the poster stylised with spiders, bats and daggers to stop her from being read as a cutesy comedian) is one that you will leave and stay thinking about for a long time.

Jarvis is not afraid to be acid in her delivery, and effortlessly moves from stories of her upbringing to biting social commentary. Living with chronic pain and having great breasts don’t immediately spring to mind as sister subjects but Jarvis is weaving an incredibly smart show together. Whimsy yet grounded in the scary realities of the world Jarvis nails the pace, seamlessly balancing light and dark. Entirely original in her style, Jarvis’s final story of visiting a Doll and Teddy Hospital as an adult is moving and a perfect finish to the show.
