Melbourne International Comedy Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live. We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' spirit, imagination and rich history of storytelling and humour that is an inspiration to all Australians.

We accept the invitation to walk together with First Nations people towards a more positive future for Australia, as described in the Uluru Statement From The Heart.

The Funny Tonne

Give Me One Good Reason Why I Shouldn't Throw My Phone Off this Bridge

Give Me One Good Reason Why I Shouldn't Throw My Phone Off this Bridge

At one point during Chris Parker’s show I and the man next to me are laughing entirely uncontrollably as Parker talks about the stress of going into a small business.

Give Me One Good Reason Why I Shouldn’t Throw My Phone Off This Bridge sees Parker explore his relationship with social media, and aging. Parker is a natural-born storyteller, at every point of the show he has the audience’s full attention, and laughter. Tales from his childhood, adulthood and married life are painted so vividly that you may as well have been there. Few comedians are as high-energy yet whip-smart as Parker, he’s an absolute delight to watch. Nicely balanced too are his moments of genuine reflection about social media addiction and the struggles of making friends as an adult (they can smell your desperation). The show finishes with an audience battle-cry as Parker performs for the crowd some ideas for TikToks and it's nothing short of incredible.
